1935年10月10日至11月28日之間，全臺灣迎來「始政四十周年記念臺灣博覽會」這場在文化知識、經濟活動上的空前絕後盛典。這個屬於全臺灣人的戰前共同重大記憶，卻隨著終戰而日益消失，在長輩逐漸凋零之後的今日更是形成空白；即使偶有臺博會相關著作問世，也是僅有片段難以窺得全貌，更不用說從遺留的黑白照片裡也無法得知當時絢麗耀眼的盛況。我們在詳閱超過三千頁的古籍逐一考證細節後，試圖還原當年阿公阿嬤、阿爸阿母的色彩視覺記憶，同時也對他們那一世代的人曾經存在過的價值，表達無上的敬意。
